20 Questions w/ Marrhinca Thomas & Lauren Kipp: #YardHard Faithful

It’s been a hot minute but we are BACK with the best question series on the world wide web! That’s right folks, Yard Athletics 20 Questions is coming through to give you a glimpse at the great people that make up our community; what makes them tick, where they like to eat and drink, and most importantly, their least favorite exercise in the gym.
Today we introduce the dynamic duo of Marrhinca Thomas and Lauren Kipp, two lovely ladies who found their way to Yard Athletics nearly by accident, but who are now devoted regulars.
Where is the best burger in Vancouver? What do you cook to impress a first date? Also, who should be the new captain of the Canucks?? See below!
1. Hometown(s)?
Marrhinca: Oakville ON.
Lauren: Victoria BC.
2. How did you first get involved with Yard Athletics?
M: I am pretty sure Lauren said she “needed” to workout somewhere with hot guys and good music and so we “had” to try out Yard. We achieved one of the two.
L: The lululemon grapevine – we were looking for a personal trainer and decided to check it out – haven’t left since.
3. Best burger in Vancouver?
M: The lamb burger at Trafalgars Bistro (RIP)
L: The burger at Mamie Taylor – it is no frills but checks all the boxes.
4. Whistler or Blackcomb?
M: Is this a question about skiing? Because I don’t ski, but I thought Blackcomb was in Whistler? 😐
L: Whistler.
5. Favorite dive bar?
M: El Binocol in Italy.
L: The Met before it was taken over a few years ago.
6. Least favorite exercise at the Yard?
M: Rear foot elevated split squat.
L: Supine pullups.
7. Tell us something we don’t know about you?
M: I just found out I have a younger sister who is 24 years old. Thanks 23andMe!
L: I took Japanese for 11 years.
8. Last book you read?
M: The Woo-Woo (but I didn’t finish it).
L: The Woo-Woo by Lindsay Wong.
9. If you weren’t working your current job, what would you be doing?
M: Own a flower shop.
L: Traveling the world working in the Olympics and other large scale games.
10. It’s a first date; what are you cooking to impress?
L: Pork tenderloin stuffed with poached pear, goat cheese and shallots.
11. Best / worst thing about Vancouver?
M: Best thing is the ocean, worst thing is the rental prices.
L: Best – the ability to be on the mountains and at the beach in the same day. Worst – the lack of good Thai food in this city.
12. Proudest achievement?
M: Not breaking up with my husband when planning our wedding.
L: Playing varsity soccer at University.
13. Who should be captain of the Canucks now that Henrik Sedin is gone?
M: The only other Canuck I know is Roberto Luongo. So Roberto Luongo!
L: Bo should be wearing the “C”.
14. Craft beer: still cool, or going out of style?
M: Into it…. but can always crush a Bud Light Lime.
L: Still cool – I will always love a good craft beer.
15. Stranded on a desert island, what 3 movies do you bring?
M: Legally Blonde, Last Samurai, Moana.
L: Inception, Oceans 11, and PS I love you.
16. Fastest time up Grouse Grind?
M: Plead the fifth.
L: 49 minutes.
17. Secret to happiness?
M: Full belly laughs.
L: Good hugs – they can fix just about anything.
18. Best thing about Yard Athletics?
M: Feels like family.
L: The community that goes along with the inclusive environment Ilan, Sam, and Joce create.
19. Regrettable purchase of 2019?
M: I have no regrets when I shop.
L: Dyson – I thought it would make me enjoy vacuuming more but I still avoid it.
20. If I could have dinner with anyone, it would be _____________ ?
M: The Obama’s.
L: Sophia Bush – I’ve loved her since One Tree Hill and the girl crush only keeps getting bigger.
